Can Older Siblings Come to Music Class? Yes! Here’s What Families Should Know

One of the most common questions we hear from families, especially around elementary school holidays, is:

“Can we bring an older sibling to class?”

The answer is yes! At Tam Tam, older siblings are welcome to join class up to two times per semester at no charge. These visits are a wonderful opportunity for the whole family to experience the joy of music-making together.

Why School Holidays Are a Great Time to Bring an Older Sibling

Many families are surprised to learn that Tam Tam runs classes on most elementary school holidays. While school schedules pause, our music classes continue, because these days often make it easier for working parents and siblings to attend together.

Holiday classes are a special chance to:

  • attend class as a whole family
  • schedule a makeup if you missed earlier sessions
  • introduce older siblings to the classroom experience
  • enjoy shared music-making across ages

These moments can feel especially meaningful for siblings who are curious about what happens in class each week.

Why We Welcome Older Siblings (In Moderation)

Family music-making is at the heart of what we do. When siblings participate, even occasionally, it strengthens connections not only between children and caregivers, but between siblings themselves.

Older siblings often:

  • model participation and confidence
  • help younger children feel comfortable
  • deepen the sense of community in the classroom
  • rediscover their own enjoyment of singing and movement

Because our classes are carefully designed for specific developmental stages, we limit complimentary sibling visits to two per semester so that the classroom environment remains balanced and welcoming for everyone.

Planning Ahead Helps Us Prepare Instruments and Space

If you’re thinking about bringing an older sibling along, just let Tam Tam’s director know in advance. This helps us make sure there are enough instruments and comfortable space for everyone participating that day.

A quick message ahead of time ensures the visit feels smooth, welcoming, and joyful for your whole family.

A Special Opportunity for Working Parents

For many working parents, school holidays are rare chances to attend class together as a family. We love being able to offer a musical space where siblings can share the experience, and where caregivers can enjoy seeing their children participate side by side.

These shared moments often become some of the most memorable musical experiences of the semester.

Yes, please bring your child’s older sibling(s) — we would love to welcome them. Just let us know in advance so we can prepare for your visit.
