At Tam Tam, we believe music is every child’s birthright, and making music together helps us become healthier, more connected, and more joyful people.
We bring live, hands-on, participatory music-making to children, families, and schools throughout New York City. Through joyful, developmentally informed classes, we create spaces where children and grownups sing, move, listen, play, experiment, and grow together.
Our work supports the whole child — strengthening musicality, language, listening, creativity, confidence, collaboration, and social-emotional development — while helping families build strong bonds and lasting memories. Above all, we aim to inspire in every child a lifelong love of music, learning, and creative expression.
We believe that grownups don’t need to be musicians to make a difference. Their participation is what makes music-making meaningful: when children see the people they love singing, moving, and playing alongside them, they learn that music belongs to everyone.
We believe music is also a way to build community. Week after week, families meet their neighbors, share songs and traditions, make friends, and experience the joy of creating something together. In our increasingly digital and divided world, we make space for real human connection through singing, movement, laughter, and play.
We embrace New York City’s extraordinary diversity by welcoming different musical traditions, languages, cultures, families, and ways of participating. Our casually bilingual English-Spanish approach invites children and grownups to play with new sounds and rhythms, strengthening listening and phonetic awareness while encouraging curiosity and flexible thinking.
And we believe that access to joyful, high-quality music-making should not be a luxury. Live music is part of wellness, education, and community life. We work to bring it to as many children and communities as possible, from neighborhood family classes to schools throughout New York City.
Music isn’t something we simply listen to. It’s something we make together.
At Tam Tam, we are building a world where every child grows up knowing that their voice matters, that they belong in the musical circle, and that making music together is a natural and joyful part of being human.
