Health and safety at Tam Tam

We are closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and continuing classes barring any government-imposed closures. In all of our classes, we want to make sure that we are maintaining best practices to prevent the spread of germs. To that end, we are increasing our normal cleaning practices and disinfecting all instruments (rather than just those that were “mouthed”) between classes.

In addition, we ask the following of each of our families (our teachers follow this practice as well):

  • Wash hands (adults and children) before/after class for at least 20 seconds (sing the Hello Song to all the members of your family — that’ll be at least 20 seconds.) All of our class venues have washing facilities. Please allow time for this.
  • Carry hand sanitizer. Washing hands is better but hand sanitizer is a great back-up. We have hand sanitizer available in every location.
  • Cough or sneeze into your arm, elbow, or sleeve – not your hand (practice this with our chant, “I’m freezing, I’m freezing, I hope I don’t start sneezing…Achoo!  Achoo!”)

And, most importantly:

  • If you or your child is not feeling well, has a fever, cough, sore throat, or runny nose, please stay home and heal.
  • If you or your child has had a fever, you must be fever-free for at least 24 hours (without assistance of pain medications) before returning to class.
  • Please keep in mind that some sneezes and coughs are not indicators of illness, but of teething or allergies. We need to assume that everyone is doing their part to keep everyone else well. So please trust one another and practice kindness.

We have a generous makeup policy and Jelena will help you schedule makeups, if you encounter any difficulties.

We are following the recommendations offered by both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) as well as NYC.gov webpage.

And please remember: singing is good for immune system! It reduces the stress hormone cortisol and stimulates the production of dopamine.
